This page describes what the document states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability may vary by jurisdiction. Methodology
This document sets out the rules advertisers must follow to run ads on Snapchat. It covers which ad categories face special requirements—such as alcohol, gambling, prescription medicines, and political ads—and what content is outright banned, including ads aimed at children under 13 and hate speech. Advertisers who break these rules risk having their accounts suspended or terminated by Snapchat Ads.
The Snapchat Advertising Policies establish the substantive obligations, prohibitions, and enforcement rights governing advertisers on the Snapchat Ads platform. Advertisers bear compliance responsibility across all Snap policies—including Terms of Service and Community Guidelines—not solely these Advertising Policies. The document imposes category-specific requirements on alcohol, financial products, prescription medicines, gaming and gambling, and political advertising, including targeting restrictions, mandatory disclosures, pre-approval requirements, and proof-of-licensing obligations. Snapchat Ads categorically prohibits ads addressed to children under 13, hate speech content targeting enumerated protected characteristics, collection of sensitive or special-category data through ads, and advertising by or targeting entities in U.S.-sanctioned countries. Snapchat Ads retains the right to suspend or terminate accounts of advertisers who violate these policies.
For individual users, this document means that ads shown on Snapchat are subject to rules designed to limit harmful or inappropriate content: ads targeting children under 13 are prohibited, hate speech ads are banned, and ads for financial products must disclose material terms before users submit any application. Users who see a political ad can expect it to carry a 'paid for by' disclosure identifying who funded it. Users cannot directly invoke these policies, but they establish the baseline content and targeting standards Snapchat Ads applies to every ad served on the platform.
