What it is

Microsoft Rewards points are stated to be the property of Microsoft at all times, have no cash value, and expire after 12 consecutive months without earning or redemption activity. Microsoft reserves the right to cancel the Rewards Program at any time without prior notice, with a stated effort to provide 90 days' redemption notice except for immediate cancellations due to legal or security reasons.

ConductAtlas Analysis

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

This provision establishes that accumulated Rewards points do not constitute user property and have no cash value, which limits the remedies available to users in the event of program cancellation or account termination. The 12-month inactivity expiration and the unilateral program cancellation right with a carve-out for immediate termination create forfeiture risk for users with accumulated point balances.

If You Do Nothing

Points expire if no earning or redemption activity occurs for 12 consecutive months.

Cancelling the Rewards Account results in immediate forfeiture of all accrued points with no reinstatement of previously forfeited points.

Points are and remain at all times the property of Microsoft, and do not constitute your personal property; they have no cash value, and you may not obtain any cash or money in exchange for them. Points are awarded to you on a promotional basis only. Unredeemed Points associated with your Rewards Account expire if you do not earn or redeem any Points in your Rewards Account for 12 consecutive months. Microsoft reserves the right to change, modify, discontinue, or cancel the Rewards Program or any part thereof at any time, in its sole discretion, and without prior notice. However, if the Rewards Program is cancelled or discontinued, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you by email and on the Rewards Dashboard and to provide you with at least 90 days to redeem your accrued Points, unless we determine that such cancellation must take effect immediately for legal or security reasons.
