Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Using Google Gemini means your conversations — including any personal details you share — are stored for up to 3 years and may be read by Google employees for safety and quality purposes. Your chat history being deleted from your account does not necessarily stop Google from retaining associated data for AI training, which is a significant privacy implication many users would not anticipate. You can limit data retention by visiting myactivity.google.com, navigating to Gemini Apps Activity, and changing or disabling the auto-delete settings.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Employees using Gemini at work may assume consumer-facing privacy protections apply to them, but their data is actually governed by their employer's Workspace contract, which could have different — and potentially less protective — terms.

View original clause language
If you use Gemini as part of a Google Workspace account (such as through your employer or school), your use is governed by your organization's Google Workspace agreement, which may have different data handling terms than those described in this notice. Your organization's administrator can configure certain Gemini settings, and the data handling practices described here may not apply to your Workspace account.
