Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

COPPA requires verifiable parental consent before collecting personal data from children under 13, and Apple's compliance with this requirement affects how Family Sharing accounts and child accounts are managed.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

If you have children using Apple devices, their accounts require parental consent and are subject to additional protections, but parents should actively manage Family Sharing settings to control what data Apple and third-party apps collect from their children.

We understand the importance of taking extra precautions to protect the privacy and safety of children using Apple products and services. Children under the age of 13, or equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction, are not permitted to create an Apple Account without parental consent.
