Account Termination and Suspension Without Compensation

High severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share 🔒 PDF

What it is

Riot Games can permanently ban your account at any time for any reason they decide, and they have no legal obligation to compensate you for any content or currency you lose as a result.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

A player whose account is terminated — even if they believe the decision is incorrect — loses all purchased virtual items and Riot Points permanently, with the only recourse being arbitration against a company that bears no contractual liability for the termination.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Close Your Account
If you wish to appeal a suspension or submit a formal account closure request, file a support ticket at support.riotgames.com with your account details and the reason for your request.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

There are no meaningful procedural protections before Riot can take away an account representing hundreds of dollars of purchases, and Riot explicitly disclaims any liability for doing so.

Upon termination, your license to use the Services will immediately terminate and you must immediately stop using the Services. Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

1) REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: This provision engages FTC Act Section 5 regarding unfair commercial practices and the adequacy of notice before adverse account actions. EU Directive 2019/770 (Digital Content and Digital Services Directive, Art. 19) requires platform operators to provide notice and justification for account terminations affecting consumers. UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Sections 62-65) governs unfair contract terms, including unilateral termination rights. CCPA §1798.125 prohibits discrimination against users who exercise data rights, which may be implicated if termination follows a data deletion request. 2)
