Pinterest may use photos, videos, and other content you upload or interact with to train its artificial intelligence and machine learning systems.

REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: This provision implicates GDPR Art. 6(1)(f) (legitimate interests) and Art. 22 (automated decision-making), as AI training on personal data requires a lawful basis and a legitimate interests assessment (LIA). The EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689, Arts. 10, 53) imposes transparency and data governance requirements on AI system training data. CCPA/CPRA §1798.121 restricts the use of sensitive personal information, and §1798.100 grants consumers the right to know how their data is used. Copyright law (17 U.S.C.) may also be implicated where copyrighted user content is used for AI training. The FTC and relevant state AGs have enforcement authority over deceptive AI data use representations.
