Fees, Payment, and Auto-Renewal

Medium severity

What it is

Your HubSpot subscription automatically renews every year (or for whatever term you signed up for), and you must give 30 days' written notice before the end of your term if you want to cancel — otherwise you'll be billed again. Fees are generally non-refundable.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Auto-renewal with a 30-day written notice requirement and non-refundable fees creates significant financial risk for businesses that fail to calendar renewal dates — missing the window results in automatic billing for an additional full subscription period.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Cancel Subscription
    Within 30 days
To prevent auto-renewal, submit written notice of non-renewal to HubSpot at least 30 days before your current subscription term ends. Log into your HubSpot account to identify your renewal date, then send written notice via email to your account manager or through the account portal.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

If you miss the 30-day cancellation window, you'll be locked into another full subscription term with no refund, which can mean thousands of dollars in unexpected charges for business customers.

View original clause language
Customer agrees to pay all fees specified in Order Forms. Fees are non-refundable except as expressly stated in this Agreement. Subscriptions automatically renew for successive periods equal to the initial term unless either party gives written notice of non-renewal at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the then-current term. HubSpot reserves the right to modify fees with notice to Customer prior to the renewal date.

Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

(1) REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: Auto-renewal provisions are regulated under the FTC's Negative Option Rule (16 C.F.R. Part 425, amended 2023), which requires clear disclosure, informed consent, and simple cancellation mechanisms for recurring subscriptions. California's Automatic Renewal Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §17600 et seq.) imposes specific disclosure and cancellation requirements for auto-renewing contracts with California businesses. New York's automatic renewal law (GBL §527-a) imposes similar requirements. The FTC's updated Negative Option Rule (effective 2024) requires that cancellation be as easy as sign-up. (2)
