Termination and Suspension Rights

High severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share

What it is

Google can terminate your access to Maps APIs immediately if you break any rule, if the law requires it, or simply if Google decides to stop offering the service in your country — with no requirement to provide advance warning in many scenarios.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

If a business's Maps API access is terminated, their customers may lose access to map-dependent features of the product immediately, with no guaranteed transition period or data portability.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

A business that relies on Maps Platform for its core product can have its API access cut off immediately for a breach or even at Google's discretion, potentially causing instant product failure with no transition period.

View original clause language
Google may at any time, terminate these Terms with Customer if: (i) Customer has breached any provision of these Terms; or (ii) Google is required to do so by law; or (iii) Google decides to no longer provide the Maps APIs or relevant parts thereof; or (iv) Google, in its sole discretion, decides to no longer provide the Maps APIs to customers in the country in which Customer is located.

Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

(1) REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: Immediate termination without notice may conflict with the EU Platform-to-Business (P2B) Regulation (EU) 2019/1150, which requires platforms to provide at least 30 days' notice before terminating or restricting access for business users, except in cases of illegal content or serious safety concerns. The DMA also imposes fair access obligations on gatekeeper platforms. In the UK, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 creates similar obligations. (2)
