Suspension and Termination

Medium severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share 🔒 PDF

What it is

Slack can suspend or cut off your organization's access to the platform at any time if it believes you have violated the agreement, including for not paying — and in some cases, it can do so without prior notice.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

If your organization's Slack account is suspended — for any alleged policy violation or non-payment — employees could lose immediate access to all workspace messages, files, and integrations, potentially disrupting operations without warning.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Immediate suspension without advance notice could cause significant operational disruption for organizations that rely on Slack for critical business communications, with no clear process for disputing the suspension decision.

View original clause language
Slack may, directly or indirectly, and at any time, suspend or limit access to the Services, in whole or in part, for violations of this Agreement, including for non-payment. Slack will provide Customer with written notice of such suspension where feasible. Slack may terminate this Agreement for cause immediately upon written notice if Customer materially breaches this Agreement.

Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: This provision engages general contract law principles of termination for cause, and may implicate UK Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and EU Directive 93/13/EEC on unfair terms in consumer contracts (where applicable). For regulated industries, sudden loss of access to communications records could trigger record-keeping compliance failures under SEC Rule 17a-4, FINRA rules, or FCA SYSC requirements.
