You can turn off Gemini Apps Activity in your Google Account settings. When Gemini Apps Activity is off, your future conversations won't be saved to your account and won't be used to personalize your Gemini experience. Turning off Gemini Apps Activity doesn't prevent your conversations from being used to improve Google's AI models.
The opt-out is incomplete — disabling conversation saving is meaningfully different from opting out of AI training data use, and users may not realize these are separate and that one control does not cover the other.
Using Google Gemini means your conversations — including any personal details you share — are stored for up to 3 years and may be read by Google employees for safety and quality purposes. Your chat history being deleted from your account does not necessarily stop Google from retaining associated data for AI training, which is a significant privacy implication many users would not anticipate. You can limit data retention by visiting myactivity.google.com, navigating to Gemini Apps Activity, and changing or disabling the auto-delete settings.
