Why it matters

Despite the advisory not to share sensitive information, the platform collects and processes whatever users submit in chat, including highly sensitive disclosures made during AI conversations.

Consumer impact

Character.AI collects extensive personal data including chat conversations, voice recordings, and behavioral data, which may be used to train AI models and shared with advertising and analytics partners. Users who create popular AI characters should be aware that those characters — and potentially associated personal information embedded in them — may be retained even after account deletion. You can request deletion of your personal data or opt out of targeted advertising by submitting a request at https://support.character.ai/hc/en-us/requests/new or emailing privacy@character.ai.
