This means the terms you agreed to when you started using AWS can change without your explicit consent, and continued use of the services — which may be operationally unavoidable for businesses deeply integrated with AWS — constitutes acceptance of potentially less favorable terms.
The agreement holds customers financially responsible for all usage charges incurred under their account credentials, including unauthorized usage, which creates meaningful financial exposure if account security is compromised. AWS's liability to customers is contractually capped at fees paid in the prior twelve months, meaning customers bear the risk of losses exceeding that amount from service failures or data incidents. You can reduce exposure by enabling multi-factor authentication, setting billing alerts in the AWS console, and reviewing the AWS Shared Responsibility Model to understand which security controls are your obligation.
