Default Model Training Opt-Out

High severity

What it is

If you use a free account or have a Le Chat Pro or Student subscription, Mistral AI will use your conversations to train its AI models unless you go into your account settings and turn this off.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Your conversation prompts and AI-generated outputs are used to train Mistral AI's models by default if you have a free, Le Chat Pro, or Le Chat Student account — you must manually opt out in account settings to prevent this.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Opt Out of Arbitration
Log into your Mistral AI account, navigate to account settings, and locate the model training or data use preferences section to opt out of your conversations being used for AI training.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Most users will not realise their conversations are being used for AI training by default — this affects the privacy of every message you send to Mistral AI unless you actively opt out.
