What it is

You can download a copy of your LinkedIn data through the Settings menu, which allows you to see what LinkedIn holds about you and take it with you if you leave the platform.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

You can request and download a copy of the personal data LinkedIn holds about you, which is a meaningful right that allows you to audit your data and understand the scope of LinkedIn's data collection about your professional identity.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Export Your Data
Go to LinkedIn Settings > Data Privacy > Get a copy of your data, select the data categories you want, and request your download. LinkedIn will prepare your data archive and notify you when it's ready, typically within 24-72 hours.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Data portability is a key user right — exercising it lets you understand exactly what LinkedIn knows about you and retain your professional network data independently of the platform.

Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: This provision implements GDPR Art. 20 (right to data portability), which applies to data processed by automated means on the basis of consent or contract. The right covers data provided by the data subject and data generated through use of the service. UK GDPR Art. 20 applies equivalently. CCPA/CPRA §1798.100 grants California consumers the right to know and access personal information. The ICO and EDPB have published guidance on practical portability implementation requirements.
