What it is

Shein conducts a quality inspection on all returned items and reserves the right to reject a return, reduce the refund amount, or deny any refund if the item does not meet stated return conditions.

This analysis describes what Shein's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology

ConductAtlas Analysis

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

This provision establishes Shein's unilateral authority to determine return eligibility and refund amounts following warehouse inspection. The lack of a defined consumer appeal mechanism for rejected returns may create exposure under consumer protection frameworks in jurisdictions that guarantee refund rights for defective or misrepresented goods.

Interpretive note: The enforceability of refund denial authority may vary by jurisdiction depending on applicable consumer protection and implied warranty statutes.

The updated return policy now explicitly conditions the free return offer on compliance with a Fair Use Policy. Previously, the policy stated free returns were available for the first return of 'one or multiple returnable items'; the revised language specifies 'one or more eligible items' and adds the condition that returns are 'subject to our Fair Use Policy.' The actual return-window timeframe and fee structure (free first return, 7.99 USD on subsequent returns) remain unchanged, but Shein now reserves the right to apply undisclosed Fair Use restrictions to determine return eligibility.

The updated terms removed explicit interface language confirming user agreement to the Terms & Conditions and Privacy & Cookie Policy, and removed text describing the ability to contact Shein to unsubscribe from email marketing. Under the revised interface, users no longer see these acknowledgments during registration or checkout. The underlying Privacy Policy itself was not changed according to the diff; however, the removal of consent and unsubscribe messaging from the user-facing interface may affect how clearly users understand their rights. When a returned item arrives at our warehouse, we will inspect and/or test it to ensure it is return-eligible and meets the applicable return requirements listed above. If the item passes our quality check, we will issue a refund. If our inspection finds that the returned item is not return-eligible or does not meet the return requirements listed above, we will reject the return and refuse to issue a refund or credit. If the returned item is used or damaged, has missing parts/accessories, or is damaged due to improper use, and this is not due to SHEIN or the seller, the refund will be reduced to compensate for the lost value of the item. If the returned item is entirely in a non-resalable condition, we will not issue any refund to you.
