Subscription Auto-Renewal

Medium severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share

What it is

Netflix automatically charges your payment method each billing period until you cancel — you must cancel before the renewal date to avoid being charged.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Your payment method will be charged automatically every billing cycle and subscription fees are non-refundable, meaning a missed cancellation deadline results in an immediate financial loss with no remedy under these terms.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Cancel Subscription
Log into Netflix, go to Account, select 'Cancel Membership', and confirm cancellation. Check your next payment date on the Account page and cancel at least 24 hours before that date to avoid being charged.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Automatic renewal means you can be charged indefinitely if you forget to cancel, and since payments are non-refundable, missing the cancellation window costs you a full billing period's subscription fee.

View original clause language
Your Netflix subscription will continue and automatically renew until terminated. To purchase a subscription, you will need to add one or more Payment Methods to your account. You must cancel your subscription before it renews in order to avoid billing of the subscription fees for the next billing cycle to your Payment Method (see "Cancellation" below). The subscription fee and any other charges you may incur in connection with your use of the service, such as taxes and possible transaction fees, will be charged to your Payment Method on the specific payment date indicated on the "Account" page.
