What it is

Netflix automatically charges your stored payment card every billing cycle unless you actively cancel — there are no reminders before each renewal charge.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Without proactive renewal reminders, you may be charged for months of Netflix you did not intend to use, and since refunds are not provided for partial periods, cancelling after a charge means losing that payment.

Your Netflix subscription will continue until terminated. To purchase a subscription, you will need to add one or more Payment Methods to your account. Unless you cancel your subscription before your billing date, you authorize us to charge the subscription fee for the next billing cycle to your Payment Method (see "Cancellation" below). The subscription fee and any other charges you may incur in connection with your use of the service, such as taxes and possible transaction fees, will be charged to your Payment Method on the specific payment date indicated on the "Account" page.

Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

1) REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: This provision engages the FTC's updated Negative Option Rule (16 CFR Part 425, effective 2024), which requires clear disclosure of automatic renewal terms and simple cancellation mechanisms. The California Automatic Renewal Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §§17600-17606) requires affirmative consent to auto-renewal terms and clear disclosures, with violations rendering charges unauthorised. In the EU, the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU, Art. 22) requires explicit consent to additional payments. The UK's Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (reg. 40) similarly requires clear disclosure of recurring charges. Singapore's CPFTA and e-commerce guidelines from the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) apply locally. 2)
