This page describes what the document states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability may vary by jurisdiction. Methodology
This document establishes Mistral AI's usage policy governing accounts on Le Chat and Mistral AI Studio, specifying prohibited uses and enforcement mechanisms. The policy prohibits generation of violent content, misinformation, intimate imagery of real people without consent, and child sexual abuse material (CSAM), with CSAM violations triggering mandatory account termination and law enforcement reporting. The agreement authorizes Mistral AI to suspend or permanently terminate accounts for policy violations, with reports directed to legal@mistral.ai or the Help Center.
Mistral AI's Usage Policy governs all users of Mistral AI products accessible on the company's platform or applications, including Le Chat and Mistral AI Studio, and applies to all content generated, shared, or accessed through those products; the policy explicitly excludes Mistral AI products deployed on customer infrastructure, partner infrastructure, or open-source models. The terms prohibit a defined set of content categories and activities, including illegal activity, CSAM (for which the policy states a zero tolerance position and mandatory account termination), non-consensual intimate imagery, hate speech, violence, self-harm promotion, fraud, misinformation, privacy violations, unauthorized professional advice, and security violations. The prohibition on providing professional advice (investment, legal, medical) without proper qualification is operationally notable for AI products because it constrains outputs that generative AI systems commonly produce, though whether users bear enforcement responsibility for AI-generated outputs in this category involves interpretive ambiguity. The policy engages the EU AI Act given Mistral AI's French jurisdiction and the policy's explicit enumeration of prohibited high-risk content categories, and the prohibition on CSAM with mandatory law enforcement reporting engages applicable national and EU-level child protection frameworks; enforcement consequences are limited to account suspension or termination with referral to authorities, with no arbitration or financial liability provisions in this document. Compliance teams reviewing deployments that layer on top of Mistral AI's platform-hosted products should note that the policy scope explicitly excludes customer-infrastructure or partner-infrastructure deployments, which may create a coverage gap requiring separate governance assessment.
