Companies change their terms quietly. We read every version and catch what actually changed. One email a week on the changes that matter and what they mean.
This page describes what the document states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability may vary by jurisdiction. Methodology
Khan Academy's Terms set out the rules for using its services, including what rights you give up and what Khan Academy can do with content you submit. Khan Academy can permanently use, modify, and sublicense anything you contribute, and if a dispute arises you must resolve it through arbitration rather than in court, without the option of joining a class action. Khan Academy's financial liability to you is capped at $100 (or what you paid in the past year, whichever is more), and it makes no warranties about the quality or reliability of its services.
Khan Academy's Terms of Service establish the contractual relationship between Khan Academy and its users, defining mutual rights and obligations across content licensing, dispute resolution, liability, and data handling. Khan Academy grants itself broad, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licenses over both user-submitted content and AI inputs and outputs, including the rights to modify, distribute, and create derivative works. The Terms cap Khan Academy's aggregate liability to users at the greater of amounts paid in the prior twelve months or $100, disclaim all warranties of any kind, and require users to indemnify Khan Academy for losses arising from their Terms violations. Disputes are subject to binding arbitration with a class-action waiver, and international users must acknowledge that their data will be collected, transferred, stored, and processed in the United States. Khan Academy reserves the right to unilaterally modify the Terms at any time, and school personnel and institutions bear responsibility for obtaining required parental consents and providing appropriate disclosures.
For an individual user, these Terms mean that any content or AI inputs and outputs you submit can be used, modified, sublicensed, and distributed by Khan Academy permanently and without compensation to you. If you have a dispute, you must pursue it through binding individual arbitration — not in court and not as part of a class action — limiting your practical ability to seek relief for small harms. Khan Academy's total financial responsibility to you is capped at $100 for free-tier users. If you access the service from outside the United States, your personal data is collected and processed in the United States. Parents or guardians who accept the Terms on behalf of a child are personally liable for all of that child's use of the platform.
