What it is

If you signed up for Hulu through an app store such as Apple or Google, your billing and cancellation are governed by that app store's rules, not Hulu's. You must cancel through the app store, not directly with Hulu.

This analysis describes what Hulu's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology

ConductAtlas Analysis

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

Subscribers who signed up through a third-party app store may not realize they need to cancel through that platform, and canceling directly with Hulu may not stop third-party billing, potentially resulting in continued charges.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

If you subscribed to Hulu through Apple, Google, Roku, or another third-party platform, your billing and cancellation rights are governed by that platform's terms, not this agreement. Attempting to cancel through Hulu's website may not stop charges from the third-party platform.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Cancel Subscription
Visit help.hulu.com to determine whether your subscription was obtained through a third party such as an app store. If so, follow the cancellation instructions for that specific third-party platform rather than canceling through Hulu's account page.

How other platforms handle this

Roblox Medium

If you use your Roblox ID to sign in to a non-Roblox website or service, and later delete your Roblox account, you may lose access to that website or service.

Plaid Medium

If Client enables any third parties as Permitted Users, Client (and not Plaid) remains solely responsible for its relationships with such third parties and for any related billing matters, technical support, or disputes

Ring Medium

View and manage the services you authorized to link to your Ring account via Ring authentication, like Alexa, and IFTTT. You can remove any individual service, at any time.

If you obtain a subscription to the Services via a third party (e.g., an app store), that subscription is also subject to the third party's terms, and the provisions in this Agreement concerning subscription purchase, billing, cancellation/refunds, and payment do not apply to that subscription to the extent this Agreement conflicts with the applicable third party's terms regarding subscription purchase, billing, cancellation/refunds and payments. For subscriptions obtained via a third party, your billing relationship will be directly with the applicable third party.
