What it is

Hulu can automatically obtain your updated credit card number, expiration date, and security code directly from your card provider and continue charging you without you re-entering your payment details.

This analysis describes what Hulu's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Subscribers who want to stop charges by allowing a card to expire may find that Hulu has already obtained updated card credentials from their payment provider and continued billing, making deliberate non-renewal through card expiry an unreliable cancellation method.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.

To reliably stop charges, log in to www.hulu.com/account and complete the formal cancellation process before your next billing date. Do not rely on card expiry as a substitute for cancellation.

Where your details change or are due to expire, we may obtain or receive from your payment provider updated payment details including your card number, expiration date and CVV (or equivalent). This enables us to continue to provide you access to the Services. You authorize us to continue to charge your card using the updated information. In the event of a failed attempt to charge to your primary payment method (e.g. if your payment method has expired), we reserve the right to retry billing your payment method or, where you have consented, to use any other stored payment method associated with your account.
