Automatic Subscription Renewal

Medium severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share 🔒 PDF

What it is

Your Cloudflare subscription will automatically charge your saved payment method at the end of each billing period unless you actively cancel before the renewal date.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

If you do not cancel before your billing period ends, Cloudflare will automatically charge your stored credit card or payment method for another full period, and refunds are generally not available.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Cancel Subscription
Log in to your Cloudflare dashboard at dash.cloudflare.com, navigate to your account billing settings, and cancel your subscription before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.

Why it matters (compliance & risk perspective)

Auto-renewal clauses can result in unexpected charges, particularly if you forget to cancel or are unaware the renewal is approaching — and Cloudflare's no-refund policy makes recovering those charges difficult.

View original clause language
Unless you notify Cloudflare before the end of the applicable subscription period that you want to cancel, your subscription will automatically renew and you authorize us to collect the then-applicable annual or monthly subscription fee for such subscription (as well as any taxes) using any credit card or other payment mechanism we have on record for you.

Institutional analysis (Compliance & legal intelligence)

REGULATORY FRAMEWORK: Auto-renewal provisions are regulated under the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA), 15 U.S.C. §8403, which requires clear disclosure of automatic renewal terms, affirmative consent, and simple cancellation mechanisms. California's Automatic Renewal Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §17600–17606) imposes additional requirements including clear and conspicuous pre-enrollment disclosure, affirmative consent, and acknowledgment of renewal terms. Similar laws apply in New York (General Obligations Law §5-903) and other states. The FTC Act Section 5 also governs deceptive auto-renewal practices.
