ConductAtlas Analysis

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

This provision establishes the operational limits of Bluesky's deletion authority within a decentralized network architecture. It clarifies that while Bluesky will initiate removal procedures within its controlled systems, content deletion across the broader AT Protocol network depends on independent actions by third-party services, which Bluesky cannot mandate or guarantee.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

The terms authorize Bluesky to delete user content from its own systems upon account deletion but condition complete network-wide deletion on the voluntary compliance of independent Developer Applications and services. Users should understand that deletion requests trigger notification to external services, but Bluesky assumes no responsibility for deletion compliance by those third parties.

If you delete your account, we will use reasonable efforts to remove your Content from Bluesky, in accordance with applicable laws and with our Privacy Policy. We also will notify other services and Developer Applications on the AT Protocol that you have deleted your account. Due to the decentralized nature of the AT Protocol, we cannot control or force other services and Developer Applications on the AT Protocol to treat your Content in a particular way and some posts may continue to exist on these services that are outside our control. That means that complete deletion across the network may not always be possible.
