Threads Terms of Use

The Threads Terms of Use establish the operational requirements and licensing terms for users of the Threads application, operated by Meta. The agreement grants Meta a license to use, copy, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute user-posted content across Meta's family of platforms and services. The terms incorporate by reference the Instagram Terms of Use and Meta's Privacy Policy, which establish additional obligations and data handling procedures applicable to Threads users.

This document constitutes the Threads Supplemental Terms of Service, governing user access to and use of the Threads app operated by Meta Platforms, Inc., with the Instagram Terms of Use incorporated by reference as the foundational legal basis. The agreement states that users grant Meta a broad, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute content posted on Threads, and the terms authorize Meta to use such content across its family of products and services. The content license grant is notably broad in scope, extending to sub-licensable rights and applying across Meta's full product ecosystem, which may interact with applicable law in jurisdictions where moral rights or data protection frameworks limit the scope of such grants. The agreement engages GDPR and related EU data protection frameworks for users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, as well as the CCPA for California residents, with Meta's Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy incorporated by reference as operative instruments; applicable law in these jurisdictions may constrain certain license grant assertions and data use authorizations the terms assert.

Users who post content on Threads authorize Meta to exercise reproduction, modification, adaptation, publication, and distribution rights over that content without separate approval or compensation. The incorporation by reference of Instagram's Terms and Meta's Privacy Policy means that data collection, retention, and use practices defined in those documents apply to Threads accounts, and privacy settings can be managed through either the Threads app or linked Instagram account settings.
