This analysis describes what Snapchat's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology
Snapchat's age verification relies on self-reported age rather than technical verification, which means children under 13 may access the platform without parental knowledge, and COPPA protections may not be effectively enforced.
Snapchat's terms grant the company a broad license to use content you post, which means photos, videos, and messages shared on public or semi-public features can be used by Snap for operational and promotional purposes. US users are subject to mandatory arbitration and a class action waiver, which means disputes with Snap are resolved privately rather than in court, and you cannot join a group lawsuit. You can review your privacy and data settings directly in the Snapchat app under Settings to manage what data Snap collects and how it is used.
