This provision establishes that regional data hosting selection is available for many covered services, either during setup or by request through an Account Executive, subject to availability, and that the selected region for one service may determine the processing region for related or dependent services.

This provision establishes that regional data hosting is not uniformly available as a self-service configuration and that region selection for one service may produce downstream region assignments for related services, creating a dependency chain that organizations should map before finalizing service configurations.
The agreement states that region selection is accommodated subject to availability, meaning preferred regions are not guaranteed. The document also states that regional selection for one covered service may determine where data is hosted in related services, requiring organizations to evaluate regional selection decisions holistically across their Salesforce service portfolio.

"When a Service offers alternative locations to process/and or store data, the Customer may be able to choose their region during the setup process or by working with an Account Executive. You may also request to have your Customer Data for a Covered Service or feature hosted in a different region, which may be accommodated, subject to availability. Further, if your Customer Data is hosted in a different region for one Covered Service, this may also affect where your data is hosted in other related services (e.g., hosting data in Europe for Service Cloud will cause your Service Cloud Einstein data to be hosted in Europe).— Excerpt from Slack's Slack Sub-Processors (Salesforce)
(1) REGULATORY LANDSCAPE: This provision engages data residency obligations under GDPR, UK GDPR, and equivalent national frameworks in jurisdictions where data localization is required or where cross-border transfers require specific authorization. The 'subject to availability' qualification on regional accommodation requests may affect the reliability of data residency commitments in contracts with Salesforce and may require evaluation under applicable transfer mechanisms. (2) GOVERNANCE EXPOSURE: Medium. Organizations that have negotiated specific data residency commitments should confirm that those commitments are operationally delivered through the regional selection mechanism described here, and that the 'subject to availability' qualification is addressed in their DPA or order documentation. (3) JURISDICTION FLAGS: EU, EEA, and UK organizations with GDPR data residency requirements, Swiss organizations under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection, South Korean organizations under PIPA, and Brazilian organizations under LGPD face jurisdiction-specific exposure where preferred regions may not be available. (4) CONTRACT AND VENDOR IMPLICATIONS: Legal teams should confirm that DPAs and order forms specify the committed processing region and address what occurs if that region becomes unavailable. The interdependency between service regions, as described in the example of Service Cloud and Service Cloud Einstein, should be documented in data processing records and disclosed to downstream customers where applicable. (5) COMPLIANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Compliance teams should document the regional selection made for each covered service, map interdependencies between service regions as described in the provision, and establish a process for reviewing regional configuration if Salesforce notifies customers of infrastructure changes affecting availability of selected regions.
