What it is

The agreement prohibits the sale or purchase of Roblox accounts and account credentials, but permits account transfer in the specific context of a written agreement for the sale of the right to earn Robux from virtual content created by that account.

This analysis describes what Roblox's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology

ConductAtlas Analysis

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

This provision establishes account transfer restrictions that affect creators operating as businesses, while creating a limited exception for commercial transactions involving virtual content revenue rights under a valid written agreement. Violations of the prohibition may result in account enforcement actions under the platform's terms.

Recent Activity

This document changed recently

High Apr 23, 2026

Roblox removed substantial portions of its Terms of Use, including sections covering dispute resolution, arbitration agreements, and class action waivers, which historically limited user remedies in disputes. The removal of language governing payments, refunds, user accounts, and intellectual property rights creates uncertainty about what protections or obligations currently apply, as replacements have not been provided in the change summary. Users should review the updated full terms when available to understand how disputes will be handled, what account protections exist, and how refunds and payments are governed.

The updated terms reorganize and clarify existing policies rather than imposing new restrictions. Roblox consolidated AI-related terms from supplemental documents into the main Terms of Use, added clarifying language about how creator content may be used in marketing and advertising, expanded disclosures about ad personalization and targeting practices, and provided additional detail on moderation procedures and group/community owner responsibilities. Practically, users and creators will find AI feature terms more prominently disclosed in the main agreement rather than in supplemental annexes, and the platform provides expanded transparency around advertiser eligibility and how ads are targeted based on personalization preferences.

The updated Terms of Use incorporate previously separate AI tool disclosures and advertising policies directly into the main user and creator agreement sections. The document now includes regional appendices addressing compliance requirements for the EU/EEA, UK, Australia, China, Japan, and Vietnam, which may apply different terms or restrictions based on your location. The restructuring removes the standalone change summary that previously explained these updates in plain language, relocating that information throughout the terms document itself.

Selling your Account or your access credentials to another User is strictly prohibited. Similarly, purchasing another User's Account or access credentials is strictly prohibited. However, transferring an Account in connection with the sale of the right to earn Robux from the sale of Virtual Content created by that Account, pursuant to a valid written agreement, is permitted.

ConductAtlas Analysis

Institutional analysis (regulatory & governance intelligence)

(1) REGULATORY LANDSCAPE: Account transfer restrictions in gaming and creative platforms are generally treated as contractual provisions enforceable under applicable state contract law. The exception permitting transfer pursuant to a valid written agreement for virtual content revenue rights may engage state business transfer and assignment law, particularly for creator businesses structured around platform accounts. (2) GOVERNANCE EXPOSURE: Low. This is a standard account security and platform integrity provision. The exception for written agreements provides a pathway for creator business transfers that is operationally distinct from simple credential sales. (3) JURISDICTION FLAGS: The enforceability of account transfer restrictions may vary by jurisdiction, particularly in the EU where platform account access and digital content rights are subject to evolving regulatory interpretation. (4) CONTRACT AND VENDOR IMPLICATIONS: Creator organizations or studios considering acquisition of platform accounts or virtual content revenue streams should ensure that any transfer is structured to satisfy the written agreement exception and that such transfers do not independently violate the prohibition on Robux or virtual content sales. (5) COMPLIANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Legal teams advising creator businesses on platform monetization transfers should review the written agreement exception carefully and confirm that the specific transaction structure does not constitute a prohibited account or credential sale.
