What it is

Users who submit feedback to Redfin assign full ownership of that feedback to Redfin; where assignment is not permitted by applicable law, the terms grant Redfin a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, exclusive, sublicensable, royalty-free license over the feedback, and users waive moral rights and attribution claims.

This analysis describes what Redfin's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

This provision transfers intellectual property ownership of user-submitted feedback to Redfin rather than granting a license, which is operationally distinct from a standard content license grant. The fallback exclusive license is perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sublicensable, covering use in any manner Redfin determines.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Under this clause, feedback submitted by users — defined to include feedback, comments, and suggestions for improvements — is assigned in full to Redfin, with no retained rights or attribution for the submitting user. The agreement also includes a waiver of moral rights to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

ConductAtlas Analysis

Institutional analysis (Compliance & governance intelligence)

(1) REGULATORY LANDSCAPE: Intellectual property assignment clauses in consumer-facing terms interact with copyright law, including the Copyright Act's provisions on work-for-hire and assignment, and may engage consumer protection frameworks in jurisdictions where broad IP assignments in click-wrap agreements face scrutiny. Moral rights waivers may have limited enforceability in jurisdictions that recognize non-waivable moral rights, including certain EU member states. (2) GOVERNANCE EXPOSURE: Medium. The distinction between a license grant and a full assignment of intellectual property is material from a consumer IP rights perspective. The provision covers 'feedback, comments, and suggestions for improvements,' which may encompass substantive creative or technical input. The scope of the waiver of moral rights may be unenforceable in jurisdictions recognizing non-waivable moral rights. (3) JURISDICTION FLAGS: EU jurisdictions and Canada recognize moral rights that may not be fully waivable under applicable law, which the provision acknowledges with the qualifier 'to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.' Users in these jurisdictions may retain residual rights despite the waiver language. (4) CONTRACT AND VENDOR IMPLICATIONS: For enterprise or professional users submitting feedback that may include proprietary operational or technical suggestions, the full assignment provision warrants review before submission. Organizations should assess whether employee-submitted feedback could inadvertently assign employer IP to Redfin. (5) COMPLIANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Legal teams advising users should confirm whether the feedback definition is narrow enough to exclude submissions that users may consider proprietary, and whether adequate notice of the assignment is provided at the point of feedback submission on the platform.
