Plaid updated its Developer Policy on April 21, 2026, making substantial changes to how developers must manage accounts and user data access. The policy now explicitly requires developers to be responsible for all activities on their accounts, and if they allow employees or contractors to access accounts, they must ensure those users only access data for approved purposes. The policy also added a new section on session replay and activity monitoring, and clarified that violations can result in suspension of access to both the platform and end-user financial data.

Reissued 2026-10-07: this change was first recorded in reverse as CA-X-001282, which was withdrawn; this record describes it in the order it happened. Plaid updated its Account Terms to introduce a new Plaid Web-App service that allows consumers to directly manage their Plaid Account, receive account monitoring notifications and alerts, and view insights about their financial connections. The updated terms clarify that Plaid may share account information with third-party applications to provide services consumers request, and expand the permitted uses of Plaid Accounts to include receiving notifications and insights from the Web-App in addition to faster onboarding. The effective date of these changes is April 14, 2026.
