This is Meta's license agreement for the Llama 3 AI model, covering who can use the model, what they can do with it, and what restrictions apply. The agreement grants broad rights to use, modify, and distribute the model and its outputs, but prohibits using those outputs to train competing AI models and requires any product built on Llama 3 to include 'Built with Meta Llama 3' in its name. If your product or service reaches 700 million monthly active users, you must separately negotiate a license directly with Meta.
This document is the Meta Llama 3 Community License Agreement, governing access to and use of Meta's Llama 3 foundational AI model weights, model derivatives, and associated materials. The agreement states that licensees receive a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, distribute, copy, create derivative works of, and modify the Llama Materials, subject to the terms and conditions set out in the agreement; the terms also authorize Meta to use any feedback provided by licensees without restriction or compensation. The agreement imposes an Acceptable Use Policy as a binding incorporated condition, prohibits use of outputs to improve competing foundational models, and requires licensees with monthly active users exceeding 700 million to obtain a separate license from Meta, creating a commercial threshold that is operationally distinct from many open-source model licenses. The agreement engages EU AI Act compliance considerations given the foundational model classification of Llama 3, as well as potential FTC Act scrutiny regarding unfair or deceptive practices in AI deployment contexts; applicability of specific regulatory requirements depends on jurisdiction, deployment context, and whether the licensee qualifies as a provider or deployer under applicable AI governance frameworks. Material compliance considerations include the incorporated Acceptable Use Policy, the derivative works redistribution obligations requiring downstream licensees to carry the same restrictions, and the attribution requirement mandating the phrase 'Built with Meta Llama 3' in derivative model naming.
