Llama Community License Agreement

This document is Meta's license for using, modifying, and distributing the Llama 3 model. You can build on and share Llama 3, but you must display 'Built with Meta Llama 3' on any public-facing product, follow Meta's Acceptable Use Policy and applicable law, and cannot use Llama outputs to improve a competing large language model. If you or your affiliates had more than 700 million monthly active users last month, the standard license does not apply and you must contact Meta for a separate agreement.

This Agreement establishes the terms under which Meta grants a non-exclusive, worldwide, non-transferable, royalty-free limited license to use, reproduce, distribute, copy, create derivative works of, and modify the Llama Materials, subject to hard usage thresholds, attribution requirements, and acceptable-use obligations. Licensees whose products or affiliates exceeded 700 million monthly active users in the preceding calendar month must obtain a separate license from Meta. Distribution of Llama Materials requires prominent 'Built with Meta Llama 3' attribution on any related public-facing surface. Meta disclaims all warranties on the Llama Materials and their outputs, excludes liability for lost profits and all indirect or consequential damages, places sole responsibility for use and redistribution risk on the licensee, and requires the licensee to indemnify Meta against any third-party claims arising from the licensee's use or distribution. Licenses terminate automatically if the licensee files intellectual property infringement proceedings against Meta relating to the Llama Materials or Meta Llama 3 outputs, and Meta may also terminate for any breach of any term or condition of the Agreement.

For an individual using a product built on Llama 3, this document primarily governs the developer, not the end user directly. However, it means that any developer distributing Llama Materials bears sole responsibility for all risks associated with their product's outputs, and Meta provides no warranties on the model or anything it produces. If you are a licensee or developer, you bear full indemnification obligations toward Meta for any third-party claims tied to your use or distribution. Licensees who believe the Llama Materials infringe their intellectual property should be aware that filing such a claim terminates all their licenses under this Agreement.
