ConductAtlas Analysis

Why it matters (compliance & governance perspective)

This provision establishes that data deletion following termination is not automatic but is triggered by Customer request or workspace deletion, and is subject to a 30-day processing period. Customers seeking earlier deletion must submit a written request. Free Version account data may be deleted after one year of inactivity without a Customer-initiated termination.

Consumer impact (what this means for users)

Under this clause, User Information and User Submissions are deleted within 30 days of termination for cause upon Customer request, or upon workspace deletion. Customers wishing to delete data before the 30-day period must request earlier deletion in writing. Data associated with Free Version accounts unused for one year or more may be deleted by Linear.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.

ConductAtlas Analysis

Institutional analysis (regulatory & governance intelligence)

REGULATORY LANDSCAPE: The data deletion provision engages GDPR Article 17 right to erasure obligations for EU-based Customers, CCPA deletion rights for California Customers, and applicable data retention requirements in regulated industries. The 30-day deletion window and the requirement for Customer-initiated requests may require evaluation against applicable regulatory deletion timelines. GOVERNANCE EXPOSURE: Medium. The deletion provision requires affirmative Customer action to trigger data deletion following termination, rather than automatic deletion. This creates a procedural requirement that enterprise offboarding workflows must address. The retention of User Submissions for active Free Version accounts may also create ongoing data governance obligations. JURISDICTION FLAGS: EU Customers should assess whether the 30-day deletion window and the Customer-request requirement are consistent with GDPR data subject rights obligations, particularly where User Submissions contain personal data. California Customers should assess whether the deletion mechanism satisfies CCPA service provider deletion obligations. CONTRACT AND VENDOR IMPLICATIONS: Enterprise offboarding procedures should include a documented step to submit a written deletion request to Linear within the 30-day termination window, and to retain confirmation of deletion for audit purposes. Teams should assess whether data retained in the Free Version following subscription downgrade creates ongoing data governance or retention compliance obligations. COMPLIANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Legal teams should ensure that offboarding procedures account for the distinction between automatic access loss upon termination and the separate, request-triggered data deletion process. Data retention schedules should be updated to reflect that Linear may retain User Submissions for Free Version accounts for up to one year of inactivity.
