BeReal may suspend a user account temporarily or permanently and prevent you from using our Services if we determine, or have reason to believe, that you have shared Unauthorised Content, used our Services in a way that infringes the rights of third parties or laws, regulations or the Terms of Service, or if we are legally required to do so. In most cases, we apply a three (3) strike rule. In the event of sharing Unauthorised Content, we suspend your account for 30 days, during which you cannot see or share Content on BeReal. If this happens three (3) times, the suspension of your account becomes permanent. Please note that posting any Unauthorised Content of particular severity, including child sexual abuse material, will result in the immediate and permanent suspension of your account from our Services. ConductAtlas Analysis

Institutional analysis (regulatory & governance intelligence)

1. REGULATORY LANDSCAPE: The EU Digital Services Act (DSA) requires platforms with significant user reach to provide clear, accessible internal complaint and redress mechanisms for content moderation decisions, and to notify users of the reasons for content removal or account suspension. The DSA also requires access to out-of-court dispute settlement bodies for affected users. BeReal's contestation mechanism (contacting customer support) may require evaluation against DSA requirements depending on BeReal's platform classification under the DSA. COPPA implications arise if suspended accounts belong to users under 13. 2. GOVERNANCE EXPOSURE: Medium. The three-strike rule provides a degree of procedural transparency, but the document does not specify the review timeline, decision criteria, or notification format for suspensions. The permanent new-account creation ban following permanent suspension may interact with DSA redress requirements and applicable national consumer protection frameworks. 3. JURISDICTION FLAGS: EU users have heightened exposure given DSA requirements for transparent content moderation and accessible redress. The DSA imposes specific obligations on platforms regarding notification of moderation decisions and access to dispute resolution. The document's contestation mechanism should be assessed against DSA Article 17 (notice of restrictions) and Article 20 (internal complaint-handling system) requirements. 4. VENDOR AND CONTRACT IMPLICATIONS: The enforcement mechanism applies to all accounts, including those created on behalf of organizations or legal entities, which may affect business continuity for enterprise users relying on BeReal for marketing or communications purposes. 5. COMPLIANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Compliance teams should assess whether the contestation process described (contacting customer support) satisfies DSA requirements for internal complaint handling and access to out-of-court dispute resolution. The absence of a specified review timeline or escalation path in the document may warrant comparison against DSA compliance obligations. Notification procedures for account suspensions should be reviewed to confirm they meet DSA Article 17 standards.
