What it is

We may collect inferences drawn from the personal information we collect to create a profile about you reflecting your preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.

Why it matters

Profile-based inferences about your financial behavior and psychology can influence what products you are offered and on what terms, with limited transparency or ability to challenge inaccurate inferences outside California.

Consumer impact

Robinhood collects extensive personal and financial data — including your investment activity, geolocation, device identifiers, and inferred characteristics — and shares it across its affiliated companies (brokerage, cash card, credit card) and with third-party business partners for marketing purposes. Users outside California have very limited opt-out rights, meaning most Americans cannot meaningfully restrict how their data is used for cross-selling. You can submit a California Consumer Privacy Act request or a general privacy request at https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/understanding-your-privacy-rights/ to access, delete, or limit sharing of your personal information.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Export Your Data
California residents can request access to their inferred profile data by submitting a 'Know/Access My Personal Information' request on Robinhood's privacy rights portal.

Applicable agencies

  • FTC
The FTC oversees commercial surveillance and algorithmic profiling practices under FTC Act Section 5 and has specifically scrutinized inference-based profiling in fintech applications.
