Companies change their terms quietly. We read every version and catch what actually changed. One email a week on the changes that matter and what they mean.
This page describes what the document states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability may vary by jurisdiction. Methodology
These terms give Descript broad, permanent rights to use content you submit — including to train its AI — unless you opt out. Descript can terminate or suspend your account at any time, without notice or cause, and can delete your content at its sole discretion. If something goes wrong, Descript's maximum financial responsibility to you is $10.00 (or what you paid for the service), and any dispute must be handled individually through arbitration, not a class action.
Descript's Terms of Service establish the contractual framework governing user access to and use of the Descript Service. Descript grants users a limited, revocable, nontransferable, non-sublicensable license for personal or internal business use, while receiving a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to create derivative works from, reproduce, distribute, modify, and sublicense user-submitted content. The document imposes a dual-consent requirement before any voice may be used to train or synthesize an AI Voice, and prohibits non-consensual voice cloning. Liability is capped at the greater of $10.00 or fees paid for the service at issue, with indirect, consequential, and punitive damages excluded entirely. All covered disputes must be resolved through individual binding arbitration following a mandatory 30-day informal resolution period, with class and consolidated proceedings expressly waived.
Content you submit to Descript is subject to a perpetual, irrevocable license that survives account deletion, and by default Descript uses your inputs and outputs to train its AI models. You can opt out of that AI training use — doing so is the specific action available to you under the terms. Any feedback you provide to Descript becomes Descript's sole intellectual property. Your account can be terminated at any time without notice or stated reason, and your stored content can be deleted at Descript's sole discretion. If you have a dispute, you must contact Descript first and allow 30 days for informal resolution before proceeding to binding individual arbitration.
