The policy authorizes AWS to investigate any suspected violation and to remove or disable access to content or resources, and requires users to cooperate with AWS in remedying any violation.
This analysis describes what Amazon's agreement states, permits, or reserves. It does not constitute a legal determination about enforceability. Regulatory applicability and practical outcomes may vary by jurisdiction, enforcement context, and individual circumstances. Read our methodology
This provision establishes unilateral enforcement authority for AWS to act on suspected violations without specifying prior notice, a defined review period, or an appeal mechanism, which creates a service availability dependency for customers whose operations run on AWS infrastructure.
Interpretive note: The scope of the cooperation obligation and whether it can be constrained by enterprise contract terms, legal holds, or regulatory obligations is not addressed in the document and may depend on jurisdiction and supplemental agreement terms.
Under this clause, AWS may remove content or disable access to resources based on suspected violations without a prior notice requirement stated in this policy. The agreement requires users to cooperate with AWS in remediation, which may include providing information or taking corrective actions upon request.

"We may investigate any suspected violation of this Policy, and remove or disable access to any content or resource that violates this Policy. You agree to cooperate with us to remedy any violation.Excerpt from Amazon's AWS Acceptable Use Policy
(1) REGULATORY LANDSCAPE: In the EU, the Digital Services Act imposes procedural obligations on platform operators including notice to affected users prior to content removal and access to an internal complaint mechanism; this policy does not include those procedures on its face, and EU-based enterprise customers or AWS entities subject to the DSA may need to evaluate alignment. The FTC's unfair or deceptive acts or practices authority may be relevant if enforcement actions are applied inconsistently or without adequate notice in consumer-facing contexts. (2) GOVERNANCE EXPOSURE: High. The absence of a specified notice requirement or appeal pathway creates operational risk for enterprise customers with business-critical workloads on AWS infrastructure. The cooperation obligation is stated without limitation, which may create tension with legal hold obligations, regulatory investigations, or confidentiality commitments that an enterprise customer may be subject to. (3) JURISDICTION FLAGS: EU and EEA jurisdictions under the DSA, as well as UK Online Safety Act obligations, create procedural requirements around content removal that may apply to AWS's operational enforcement of this policy. In some jurisdictions, a right to cure or right to notice before service suspension may be implied by commercial law or consumer protection statutes. (4) CONTRACT AND VENDOR IMPLICATIONS: Enterprise service agreements with AWS may contain additional procedural protections or notice requirements beyond what this AUP states; compliance and procurement teams should confirm whether the master service agreement or enterprise terms modify the enforcement terms in this policy. The cooperation requirement may intersect with indemnification or liability clauses in broader AWS customer agreements. (5) COMPLIANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Organizations should review their AWS enterprise agreements for any supplemental notice, cure, or appeal provisions that may apply alongside this policy. Business continuity plans should account for the possibility of content removal or access disabling pending investigation. Documented compliance processes and abuse prevention mechanisms should be maintained, as the policy states these may be considered in enforcement determinations.
