Unilateral Right to Modify Terms

Medium severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share

Why it matters

Pinterest can alter the rules governing your account and content at any time, and simply continuing to use the service — even without actively reviewing the new terms — constitutes your legal agreement to them.

Consumer impact

By using Pinterest, you grant the platform a wide-ranging license to use, display, and distribute your photos and content across their services. US users are subject to mandatory arbitration and cannot join class action lawsuits against Pinterest, which significantly limits legal recourse. You can opt out of the arbitration clause by sending written notice to Pinterest within 30 days of first accepting these terms.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Close Your Account
If you disagree with updated terms, you must close your account before the effective date of the changes. Go to Settings > Account Management > Close Account in the Pinterest app or website.

Applicable agencies

  • FTC
The FTC monitors unfair and deceptive practices, which can include inadequate notice of material changes to consumer contracts.
