MetaMask and Consensys own all intellectual property in the software and platform; users are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to use the software but do not own any part of it.
You cannot copy, modify, or distribute MetaMask's software beyond what the license permits, and Consensys can revoke your license if you violate the Terms.
The IP provisions are standard for commercial software licenses but should be reviewed in conjunction with MetaMask's open-source components (the extension is partially open source under MIT license), which may create conflicting licensing obligations for enterprise integrations.

MetaMask users bear full responsibility for safeguarding their private keys and seed phrases, with no recovery option if these are lost — meaning lost funds are permanently unrecoverable. The terms include mandatory arbitration and a class action waiver, which significantly limits users' ability to pursue legal remedies collectively. You can opt out of the arbitration clause by sending written notice to Consensys within 30 days of first agreeing to the Terms.
