Suspension and Termination by Hulu

Medium severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share

Why it matters

Hulu's termination rights are broad and discretionary, meaning your account — and any content you can access — can be removed without warning, and you may not receive a refund for the subscription period you have already paid for.

Consumer impact

Hulu subscribers are locked into automatic recurring billing with no refunds for unused subscription periods, meaning cancelling even one day late results in a full additional charge. The Agreement also waives your right to join a class action lawsuit against Hulu, forcing any dispute into individual binding arbitration which statistically favors large corporations. You can cancel your Hulu subscription at www.hulu.com/account by clicking 'Cancel' before 11:59 PM ET on the day before your next billing date.

Applicable agencies

  • FTC
The FTC enforces against unfair subscription termination practices that deprive consumers of prepaid value without adequate disclosure under FTC Act Section 5.

  • State AG
State Attorneys General enforce consumer protection laws regarding unjust enrichment from subscriber-paid subscription fees retained after provider-initiated account termination.
