The clause operationalizes continuous billing by establishing automatic charging as the default state, requiring affirmative user notification to prevent charges rather than requiring affirmative authorization for each renewal cycle. This shifts the procedural burden to the user to initiate cancellation rather than to Ring to request continued authorization.
Users are obligated to provide notice of cancellation or non-renewal preference before each billing cycle to prevent charges; absent such notice, renewal charges are authorized to proceed automatically. If a payment method fails or is rejected, the terms authorize Ring to cancel the subscription plan unless the user provides an alternative payment method.
How other platforms handle this
Subscriptions shall automatically renew for successive terms equal to the expiring term unless either party provides written notice of non-renewal at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the then-current term. Customer agrees to pay all fees specified in the applicable Order Form.
Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each subscription period unless you cancel your subscription before the renewal date. You authorize Skillshare to charge your payment method on a recurring basis for the subscription fee.
Except as expressly set forth herein, all fees and charges are non-refundable. All fees are exclusive of taxes, levies, or duties imposed by taxing authorities, and you shall be responsible for payment of all such taxes, levies, or duties.

"Unless you notify us before a charge that you want to cancel or do not want to auto renew, you understand your Subscription Plan will automatically continue and you authorize us (without notice to you, unless required by applicable law) to collect the then-applicable subscription fees and any taxes, using any payment method we have on record for you. Subscription fees are billed or charged on the first day of the applicable subscription period. If any payment is not received or is returned unpaid, or if any credit card or similar transaction is rejected or denied, Ring reserves the right to cancel your Subscription Plan unless you provide us with a new payment method.— Excerpt from Ring's Ring Terms of Service
