Unilateral Amendment with Limited Notice

High severity
Share 𝕏 Share in Share

What it is

We may modify this Contract, our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy from time to time. However, we may not always provide prior notice of changes to these terms (1) when those changes are legally required to be implemented with immediate effect, or (2) when those changes relate to a newly launched service or feature.

Why it matters

This clause means LinkedIn can materially alter the terms governing your data and content without prior notice in enumerated circumstances, which limits your ability to opt out before new terms take effect.

Consumer impact

LinkedIn's User Agreement grants the company a broad, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any content you post — including photos, articles, and videos — which extends to AI training and service development and persists beyond account deletion in some circumstances. LinkedIn's liability to you is capped at the greater of fees paid in the past twelve months or $1,000, which severely limits your ability to recover damages even for serious service failures. You can review and manage your privacy and data settings, including AI data usage preferences, at linkedin.com/psettings.

What you can do

⚠️ These actions may provide transparency or partial mitigation but may not fully address the underlying issue. Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and individual circumstances.
  • Close Your Account
If you disagree with updated terms, you can close your LinkedIn account by visiting linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/63 and following the account closure instructions before the new terms take effect.

Applicable agencies

  • FTC
The FTC has authority under Section 5 of the FTC Act to act against unfair or deceptive practices, including inadequate notice of material changes to consumer contracts.
